Marketing Management (MM)
After graduating with her doctorate from the University of Glasgow, Prof Eleanor Shaw took up a position as a Lecturer within the Department, before moving to Durham Business School, UK, where she was Director of the Master's in Entrepreneurship for two years. Eleanor re-joined the Department in 2001 and was promoted to Reader in 2007 at which time she became Director of the Honours Marketing Programme. Eleanor took up the post of Director of Research in Autumn, 2011. In addition to her academic work, she is a Director of Actif Solutions, a Newcastle-based research and training company. Eleanor is currently Principal Investigator of an ESRC-funded project exploring entrepreneurial philanthropy. The project contributes to the programme of research being undertaken by the UK-wide Centre for Charitable Giving and Philanthropy (www.cgap.org.uk).
Research Interests
Her research interests concentrate on marketing and entrepreneurship. In particular, she is interested in entrepreneurial marketing and small firm networks. Her work in this area has considered small creative firms as well as social enterprises and women-owned small firms. Most recently Eleanor contributed to an ESRC-funded project exploring the impact that networks have on bank and business-owner relationships. The issues on which Eleanor's research has focused are relevant to developing theory, policy and practice about and in small and medium sized organisations. Her research has been supported by a range of organisations including the ESRC, Barclays Bank, the Industrial Society, the Institute of Small Business Advisers, the DTI, the Small Business Service (SBS), the School for Social Entrepreneurs, The Big Issue in Scotland, Scottish Enterprise and Social Investment Scotland. Eleanor publishes in British Journal of Management, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Business History, Environment and Planning C, European Journal of Marketing and International Small Business Journal.
